The Older Brother is the tragedy of a man who never once allowed himself to be lost. He lived his life the right way: he was faithful, patient, and obedient; he learned to suppress his weakness and call it a virtue. But that is precisely why he found himself incapable of understanding a love that does not need to be earned.
He looks not within, but without — comparing, evaluating, judging. His world is anchored in the belief that everything must be deserved. And so, the return of the prodigal son becomes for him not a miracle, but an affront to the very concept of justice.
There is no open hatred in his face. There is something far more terrifying — the profound bewilderment of a man confronting, for the first time, something that cannot be measured by rules. It is a state suspended between resentment and revelation, between righteousness and an inner void.
He spent so long being "right" that he forgot how to be alive.
