He was born there, where he would remain for a lifetime—in a space concealed from the world.
The hand goes numb. Muscles seize, the pain swelling with every passing second. Yet he does not let go. Any movement would shatter this state—and with it, the only experience of intimacy he has ever been granted would vanish.
His face bears an impossible confluence of states: pain, fear, bewilderment, and a sudden, blinding euphoria. It is the smile of an infant feeling its mother for the very first time.
It holds no trace of defense, no underlying motive—only a pure, primal experience in which a human being stands utterly disarmed before himself.
Suffering becomes the price of love, and to refuse the pain is to refuse love itself.
